Creative Engineering Design
Description
The purpose of this project was to take first world problems and try to develop an original idea of a solution. My group of three was formed after we all chose to find a solution to split ends. Split ends are signs of unhealthy hair and/or unhealthy habits. We found out what hair was made of, how hair was formed, and how split ends occur. We were asked to design prototypes of products to help this problem. An idea was to made a paddle brush with flexible bristles coated in keratin to repair the damaged hair(the keratin acts like the natural hair to connect it, because hair is mostly made of it). Another product, our final product, was to make a leave in conditioner that contained the connective keratin. We made models of split ends and we actually got some actual samples from our own group members!
Reflection
Working with my group was so easy! I knew them and we were all girls so it seemed naturally easy. We each made a model and worked great together. We would need up having a ton of extra time because we were able to work easily together.
Concepts
Engineering design cycle:
1.The problem is split ends
2.How split ends form, what hair is made of, why split ends are bad
3.Keratin-infused conditioner, paddlebrush coated in keratin
4.Keratin-infused conditioner
5.Construct a prototype - we made models of types of split ends
6.Test and evaluate the prototype
7.Communicate the design
8.Redesign
9.Repeat
